I'd Like Some Feedback On This

I have a question for all my watchers, stalkers, friends and all those people inbetween said groups. Moreso this applies to you if you are in high school, taking general education courses in college as of now or are a history major.

Now, I was reading a high school text book the other day and I realize that these things need to change. If you have ever sat down and looked at one, you'll find them to be extremely boring as well as they don't carry all the information essential to understanding the history of man. Sure, the information is there to help you pass the tests and those state wide mandatory exams and SATS and so forth, but what does a student take away from the experience when he or she sits in any history class whatsoever.

So here is my question to you all: If you could change one thing about a History textbook, what would it be? I don't want you all to say things like "Make it shorter" or "We don't need to learn X,Y and Zed for the test" but rather critical errors and flaws that can be approved upon in coming years hopefully. (Maybe by me one day)

Interesting topic. I don't know if I can go into much detail in comments- I'd love to discuss it later. I've been a bit of an antisocial recluse lately, about time I logged in. =/

Sweet. I'll see you later on then.

Well, teachers and the bookas they teach from need to show the history, then tie the past in with the present. Those who don't follow history are doomed to repeat that, and by showin the various parallels between then and now it would enable us as a society to avoid the mistakes of the past.

Oh, and they need to stop teaching the test as well, its s shame the students probably don't learn stuff that won't be on the states tests.

Hmmm...I'm not sure. I don't have any history text books because I'm a senior so I can't really remember reading one anyways...^^;

I do remember a history book I enjoyed named An American Pageant, we read it for AP US History and it had some cool documents, art, and political cartoons tied in with each chapter to make things interesting. It also had chapters dedicated to other events happening outside of political events, such as chapters on advances and trends in medicine, art, culture, and religion. I think it'd be worth a look into for you.

As a black person and a equal rights minded person myself
I would like the text books *usa* to focus more on everyones history
I mean we know about the civil war
We know about the crossing of the delaware
But we dont research indian american history after the take over of their land
We dont talk about asian american history besides for the world war
We dont mention Hispanic american history besides for cinco de mayo
I think we need to touch base with all aspects of american history

The world's already such a cookie cutter clusterfuck of clones that the last thing we need is yet another copycat. Integrity is so rare in our universe these days. *Sigh*

A very interesting question.
I myself, would like to see both sides of a story. We, the USA, focus on our wins and triumphs and give our side of the wars and revolutions, conflicts and jury cases and what not. We tell how we won and only talk about the good things and leave the other side of the sories in the dark. I would love to hear the other participants of the war's side, the case's subject reasoning and all of that. How they felt, why they went to war, what caused them to go to such lengths, and how their culture suffered because of it. American textbooks only focus on the good things and victoires. What about the loses? The real reason behind the wars? How our own people are treated because we're fat, black, non christian, different? Who are we to say that you're wrong and don't deserve to tell your story? Personally, I'm, sick of how America portrays itself and want something more. Fufilled promises and what not. How about a history book that describes how corrupt the government is and how people suffer? Why not tel the truth?
I'm sorry, I'm probably getting ahead of myself huh? In short, I want a textbook that isn't afraid to tell us what's what and tells us the so called losers side of the tale and not just the winners. Everyone can stand to learn something from a lose and we're no different. A book that justifies why we- and everyone else- did certain events. Not just excuses. If only a textbook like thate xisted..history majors would cry in happiness : D
